1. What is the Disclosures block?
The Disclosures block displays legally required product warnings on your storefront, such as California Proposition 65 chemical exposure notices, CPSC choking hazard warnings, and other regulatory disclosures.
The block is a display tool only. It does not store or create warning content. It reads the disclosures you have added to a product in Shopify admin and renders them either as an expandable accordion or as a modal opened from a labelled link.
2. Location & Setup
To add & set up the Disclosures block:
- Open the Shopify Theme Editor (Online store > Themes > Customize).
- Open a Product template and select the Product information section.
- Click "Add block".
- Select "Disclosures".
- Repeat in the Quick view and Featured product sections if you want warnings shown there too.
To show disclosures in the cart, go to Theme settings > Product > Disclosures.
3. 🚨 MUST READ: Add the disclosure in Shopify admin first
🚨 Adding the block is not enough - the warning text lives in Shopify, not in the theme.
The block only displays what Shopify gives it. Before it will show anything, add a disclosure to the product:
- Go to Shopify admin > Products and open the product.
- Scroll to Product metafields and find Disclosures.
- Click the Add disclosures field and pick the category you need - Chemical exposures, Choking hazards, or CPSC eFiling Compliance, then choose the specific warning inside it.
- You can also add Custom disclosures. Click Add new entry and fill in the Title, Content, Symbol, and Jurisdictions. Under Display preferences, tick every place the warning should appear - the product page, the cart, or checkout.
- Click Save.
A product with no disclosure shows nothing, even with the block added.
⚠️ Compliance is your responsibility. Omni Themes provides the display mechanism only. Which warnings your products require, and how they must be worded and shown, depends on the regulations of the markets you sell to. Consult a qualified professional if you are unsure.
4. Common Use Cases
🤔 How to set up the Disclosures block?
STEP 1: Add the block.
Open a Product template, select the Product information section, click "Add block" and choose Disclosures.
💡 Note: Only one Disclosures block is allowed per section. All of a product's disclosures are listed inside that single block.
STEP 2: Choose the display style.
Set Display style to Modal or Accordion. The choice applies to both desktop and mobile.
STEP 3: Write the heading.
Enter a Heading. Leave it blank to fall back to the heading set in Theme settings > Product > Disclosures.
STEP 4: Set the style-specific options.
Depending on the Display style you've chosen in STEP 2, configure:
- Modal style: Choose Modal label
- Accordion style: Choose to open the warning tab by default or Show warning symbol
STEP 5: Repeat for the other sections.
Add the block again in Quick view and Featured product if you want warnings there. Each section keeps its own settings.
STEP 6: Click "Save" when done.

💡 Tip: If a warning must be seen before purchase, use Accordion with Open this tab by default turned on, so no click is needed.
🤔 How to show disclosures in the cart?
Cart display is controlled in Theme settings, not in the block.
STEP 1: Open the Theme settings.
Go to Theme settings > Product > Disclosures.
STEP 2: Turn on the surfaces you need.

STEP 3: Check the Shopify side too.
⚠️ Two settings have to agree. Shopify decides where a disclosure is allowed to appear, and the theme decides whether to render it there. The toggles above only show disclosures whose Display preferences in Shopify admin include the cart. If a warning appears on the product page but not in the cart, open the product in Shopify admin, navigate to Product metafields and add the cart to that disclosure's display preferences.
💡 Note: These two toggles affect the cart only. They do not put disclosures on the product page, in Quick view, or in Featured product - each of those needs its own Disclosures block.
