1. What is a cookie banner?
A cookie banner is a notification that appears on a website, informing visitors that the site uses cookies and seeking their consent before collecting any data. It serves as a tool for compliance with privacy regulations, particularly in regions where asking for user consent before collecting data is mandatory for online merchants.
✍️ How to locate the Cookie banner section in Theme Editor:
- Open the Theme Editor in your Shopify admin (Online store > Themes > Customize).
- In the left-side panel, scroll down to find the Overlay group.
- Click on the Cookie banner section.
- From here, you can customize its settings.
2. How to set up the cookie banner with the Eurus theme?
First, activate the Cookie Banner: activate the default Shopify cookie banner by following the steps provided here: Configuring customer privacy settings.
After that, you can set up the banner in two ways:
a) Approach 1: Using Eurus Theme's Cookie Banner (Recommended)
Eurus Theme provides advanced customization options for the cookie banner, allowing you to tailor its style, buttons, and message to match your brand identity. To do this, follow these simple steps:
STEP 1: Open the Cookie banner settings
In the Overlay group section, locate the Cookie Banner section.
STEP 2: Enable the cookie banner feature
Toggle on Enable to activate the theme's cookie banner.
STEP 3: Choose your banner mode
Eurus supports two banner modes depending on whether you want to offer shoppers granular control over their cookie preferences:

| Basic banner | Enable manage preferences turned off (default) | A standard banner with Accept and Decline buttons — same as before. No cookie category selection. |
| Preferences banner | Enable manage preferences turned on | The banner includes a "Manage preferences" text link. Shoppers can click it to open a preferences panel and choose which cookie categories to allow. |
STEP 4: Customize the banner appearance
Once enabled, configure the banner to match your store:
- Cookie notice - craft a clear, concise message informing users about your site's cookie usage.
- Delay - set the number of seconds to wait before showing the banner after a visitor enters the site.
- Buttons - customize Accept & Decline button labels and styling to align with your brand.
- Style adjustments - tailor the banner's colors and appearance to match your website's overall design.
STEP 5: Click "Save" when done.
🔍 Information — How "Enable manage preferences" works: When this option is enabled, the cookie preference categories (such as Personalization, Marketing, and Analytics) are pulled from the settings you configure in your Shopify admin under customer privacy. The theme displays whichever categories Shopify has made available for your store. Text size follows your theme's Typography settings, and colors follow your Cookie banner color configuration.
b) Approach 2: Using Shopify's Banner
Alternatively, you can create a cookie banner within the Shopify admin. Once set up, this banner will override the theme's cookie banner by default.
