1. Metafields?
a) What Are Metafields?
Think of metafields as bonus features for your products. They let you store information that Shopify doesn't normally include. This could be:
- Washing instructions for clothes
- Ingredients for food
- Cool facts about your products
- or anything else…!

b) How to create Product metafields.
Step 1: In your Shopify admin, click on Settings > Custom data
Step 2: Under Metafields definition, select Products.
Step 3: Click Add Definition.
Step 4: Fill in the information:
- Name: Enter your metafield’s name (Example: “Ingredients”)
- Namespace and key: it follows the Name above, or you can enter a different name.
- Description (optional): Describe your metafield for every staff to understand!
- Select type: Choose the data type that will be filled in for your product metafields. (Example: Single line text, Files, Date and Time, etc.)
Step 5: Don’t forget to Save
c) Add value to your metafields.
Step 1: In Shopify admin, go to Products > Click on the product you want to add extra details.
Step 2: Scroll down to Metafields, enter the value:
Step 3: Click Save
2. How to display metafields on your online store?
The answer is: Dynamic Sources
Dynamic sources are like little helpers that grab the info from your metafields and put it on your product page.
How to Use Dynamic Sources
Step 1: Go to Online Store > Themes, and click Customize.
Step 2: From the dropdown menu, choose one of the page templates to edit.
Step 3: Add a section or block
Step 4: You can search for and select a single metafield by clicking the connect dynamic source icon:
Step 5: Click Save
Done! The information from your metafield should now appear on your product page. You can make it look nice and even use it in other places on your site.
