B2B compatibility

1. About this page

This page is a compatibility reference for merchants using the Maximize theme who also use Shopify's B2B features. It documents which Shopify B2B features interact with the theme, and whether they work as expected.

Shopify offers a large set of B2B features. Many of them are managed entirely through the Shopify admin and have no interaction with the storefront theme at all. This guide focuses on the features that do affect the storefront experience, and clearly notes which ones are admin-only.

πŸ’‘ This compatibility was tested against Maximize theme v1.8.0. Results may differ on older versions. For the latest Shopify B2B feature list, refer to Shopify's official B2B documentation.

πŸ“¦ B2B Catalogs & Products
Catalogs (custom B2B pricing) βœ… Compatible B2B prices display correctly on product cards, sale labels, and at checkout. When multiple catalogs are assigned to the same market or company location, the lowest price is shown.

Volume pricing βœ… Compatible Fully compatible. Use the dedicated Volume pricing block in the Product information section to display quantity-based pricing tiers to B2B customers.
Quantity rules ⚠️ Partial

Quantity rules (minimum, maximum, increment) are enforced at checkout, but the theme's quantity input does not yet display or enforce the rules inline on the storefront. Specifically:

  • When a customer enters a quantity significantly above the maximum, the product may still be added to cart at the maximum quantity rather than being blocked with an error message.
  • The quantity field does not display min/max/increment guidance next to the input (unlike Shopify's Horizon reference theme).

This is a known limitation being tracked for a future update.

B2B discounts βœ… Compatible Automatic discounts and discount codes assigned to B2B markets apply correctly for logged-in B2B customers.

Locking prices in draft orders 🚫 Not in Theme Editor Price locking is done in the Shopify admin. Nothing to configure in the Theme Editor.
Reserving item inventory in draft orders βœ… Compatible The theme correctly reflects reserved stock - inventory shown on the storefront is reduced once inventory is reserved in a draft order.
One-time shipping addresses 🚫 Not in Theme Editor Configured per company location in the Shopify admin. Nothing to configure in the Theme Editor.
πŸ’³ B2B Payments
Payment terms, Vaulted credit cards, Payment reminders, Invoice from draft, Partial payments, Manual payment methods, PayPal for B2B 🚫 Not in Theme Editor All B2B payment features are configured in the Shopify admin or handled at checkout. None of these interact with the theme's storefront display.
πŸ‘€ B2B Self-Serve & Customer Accounts
Customer accounts βœ… Compatible B2B customers can log in using Shopify customer accounts to access B2B-specific pricing and their order history. The theme displays this information correctly.
Easy reorders, Purchase order numbers, Self-serve returns, Customer account UI extensions, Third-party identity providers 🚫 Not in Theme Editor These features are configured in the Shopify admin or via third-party apps. Nothing to configure in the Theme Editor.
πŸͺ B2B Online Store
Online store contextualization 🚫 Not in Theme Editor Displaying different content per market is configured via Shopify Markets. Theme Editor allows per-market customization separately.
Quick order lists 🚫 Not in Theme Editor Shopify's native quick order list feature does not directly affect the theme. The Maximize team is monitoring this for a potential future feature development.
Liquid support for themes & email templates 🚫 Not in Theme Editor Liquid customization is done by developers and does not affect standard theme functionality.
πŸ”— B2B Apps & Integrations
B2B APIs, B2B apps, B2B integrations 🚫 Not in Theme Editor Third-party integrations and API-based solutions work independently of the theme.

4. Known limitation: Quantity rules

⚠️ Quantity rules enforcement on the storefront is partial.

Shopify's Quantity rules feature lets merchants set minimum, maximum, and increment restrictions on how many units a B2B customer can order. In the Maximize theme:

  • Rules are enforced at checkout - customers cannot complete an order that violates the rules.
  • However, the quantity input on product pages and product cards does not yet display the rules inline (e.g., showing min/max hints next to the quantity field) or automatically snap to valid increments.
  • In edge cases where a customer enters a very large quantity, the product may still be added to cart at the maximum allowed quantity rather than being blocked with a clear error.

This limitation is being tracked and will be addressed in a future theme update. In the meantime, merchants using Quantity rules are encouraged to communicate purchasing restrictions to their B2B customers directly (e.g., via product descriptions or a custom text block).
