Search page

1. What is Search page?

The Search page displays the search bar and related results after customers conduct a search. It helps them quickly look for products, collections, or content across your website using the store’s search feature.


2. Location & Setup

  1. Go to "Online Store" > "Themes" > "Customize".
  2. Click on the Homepage dropdown menu.
  3. Search for "Search".
  4. Click on it to navigate.
  5. From here, you can customize the page template as you want.

  • Display dynamic results: Show products, collections, and blog posts relevant to the search keyword.
  • Enable filtering and sorting: Let customers refine search results to find exactly what they need.
  • Customizable product and blog cards: Adjust what details show on product/blog cards (vendor, rating, date, etc.).
  • Responsive layout: Adjust column numbers, spacing, and pagination styles across desktop and mobile.

🤔 How to enable the Filters tool?

To add filters to your collection and search results pages, you need to install an app from the Shopify App Store. If you:

  • Use the Shopify Search & Discovery app (recommended). Follow the guidelines here.
  • Use a different app, please check its documentation for instructions.

 

🤔 How to customize filtering and sorting settings?

STEP 1: Open the settings

Click on the Search result section to open its panel, then scroll down to Product card setting group.

STEP 2: Setup the filters

  • Enable filtering: Show the filtering bar on the search page.
  • Enable sticky filters: Keep filters visible when scrolling.
  • Desktop filter layout: Choose Drawer, Aside, or Above.
  • Enable sorting: Show the sorting bar on the search page.

STEP 3: Click “Save” when done.

 

🤔 How to customize product card’s look on the search page?

Product cards display products on the search page. To customize their look:

STEP 1: Open the settings

Click on the Search result section > scroll down to Product card group.

STEP 2: Choose what to show

  • Show vendor: Display product brand name.
  • Show product rating: Display star ratings.
  • Show quickview: Let users preview product info without leaving the page.

STEP 3: Click “Save” when done.

 

🤔 How to customize blog card’s look on the search page?

Blog cards display blog posts on the search page. To customize their look:

STEP 1: Open the settings

Click on the Search result section > scroll down to Product card group.

STEP 2: Choose what to show

  • Image ratio: Set the ratio for blog post images.
  • Show date: Display blog post publish date.
  • Show author: Display blog author name.

STEP 3: Click “Save” when done.


🤔 How to exclude products from in-store search?

If you want to hide any product from customer discovery while keeping it available for purchase, Shopify now supports the Unlisted product status. By this way, the product still allows access via a direct URL.

To set up Unlisted product status, go to Shopify admin > Products > Choose the Product > Change Status to Unlisted.

In Search result section > Filtering and sorting > turn on Collapse filter.

✨ Show all filters

In Search result section > Filtering and sorting > enable Expand all filters by default.

✨ Show result counts

In Search result section > Filtering and sorting > enable Results count.

✨ Choose pagination style

In Search result section > Filtering and sorting > choose between Infinite scroll, Number pagination, or Click to load.

✨ Change number of result columns

In Search result section > Filtering and sorting > set Columns on desktop and Columns on mobile.

✨ Change block spacing

In Search result section > Section layout > set Block spacing desktop and Block spacing mobile.

✨ Change section width / padding / divider

In Search result section > Section layout group > adjust section width, padding, or divider.
