EU right of withdrawal

1. What is EU right of withdrawal, and how does Maximize help?

The EU right of withdrawal gives customers in the EU a set period to cancel an order or return a product, generally without needing to give a reason. To support merchants in meeting this requirement, Maximize adds return/cancellation entry points in 4 places: the Header, the Footer, a sticky Overlay button, and a dedicated form section.

2. Where the Withdrawal request feature shows up

Header A Withdrawal request block you can add to the Header section, rendering inline with your other menu items. See the Header guide.
Footer A Withdrawal request block you can add to the Footer section, alongside your other footer columns. See the Footer guide.
Overlay A sticky floating Withdrawal request button, visible on every page of your storefront. See the Overlay guide.
Section The Withdrawal request form section - a standalone form guests fill in to submit their request. See the Section guide.

3. How the pieces fit together

All three entry points (Header, Footer, Overlay) share the same link logic:

  • Guests are sent to whichever page you set in each block's Link setting. This should be a page you've built using the Withdrawal request form section, so guests always have a way to submit a request without needing an account.
  • Logged-in customers are automatically redirected to their Order page instead, where they can self-serve a return or cancellation directly - the Link setting doesn't apply to them.
⚠️ Prerequisite - New Customer Accounts only: The automatic logged-in redirect only works if your store uses New customer accounts. Legacy accounts are not supported. To check, go to Shopify Admin > Settings > Customer accounts and make sure you've upgraded.

In short: set up the form page once, point your Header/Footer/Overlay blocks to it, and both guests and logged-in customers are covered.

4. Recommended setup order

  1. In Shopify Admin, set up the Return & cancellation rules following this Shopify guidance.
  2. Build a page using the Withdrawal request form section - this is where guests will submit their requests.
  3. Add the Header and/or Footer Withdrawal request block, and point its Link setting to that page.
  4. (Optional) Add the sticky Overlay button for extra visibility, pointing to the same page.
